Research and Reach: Spreading the Word About Our Unique Service!

Our service is truly one of a kind—let’s make sure everyone knows about it!

As a consortium, our Planning and Promotion team has been hard at work reviewing our current outreach efforts and identifying new ways to generate referrals. In recent months, we’ve connected with a wide range of organisations, including Health Trusts, Council Areas, and Private Occupational Health providers, to raise awareness about the Workable NI Programme and the unique expertise our ‘Magnificent Seven’ bring to the table.

Through PowerPoint presentations, sharing literature and leaflets, and building new partnerships, we’ve worked to enhance understanding and expand our reach.

Our goal is clear: no one in Northern Ireland should be excluded from the support they need to retain their job due to a disability or health condition.

Whether you’re a consortium staff member, a service user, an employer, or a business in need of support, please share our information, get in touch, and help ensure we reach those who could benefit from our service.

We encourage everyone to continue promoting SES – Workable NI at every opportunity. Thank you for your ongoing support in spreading the word! Together, we can make a difference.

In our February 2024 exhibit we had over 25 suppliers and numerous local charities represented and the entire event was extremely successful. RNIB NI want to continue with our successes and ensure an enhanced experience is provided in 2025. We were pleased to welcome over 500 visitors through the doors at last year’s event and this year, RNIB will be arranging transport for people from pick up points across NI so we are expecting even greater numbers to this event.

Good News Story

David joined NOW Group’s employment service in early 2024, securing his first paid role with Musgrave Marketplace in Duncrue. He became part of Workable in May 2024, where he has made excellent use of the support provided, while also receiving outstanding guidance from colleagues and management to ensure his success in his role. In November 2024, David was promoted to the position of Forecourt Monitor, recognizing his exceptional customer service skills. This new role allows him to engage with Musgrave’s customers, delivering a positive experience even before they enter the store. Additionally, David has taken advantage of NOW Group’s Training Team, expressing a desire to complete his Maths Essential Skills qualification to further enhance his skill set. David has been a valued member of the program and, with the continued support of Workable NI and NOW Group, is expected to continue growing and thriving in his career.

Staff Spotlight on Laura from AdaptNI

I’m Laura Murphy-Sloan, and I’m proud to lead AdaptNI’s WorkableNI for the Deaf, hearing loss, and tinnitus communities across Northern Ireland. When my previous employer, closed its face-to-face employment services on 30th June 2022, myself and cofounder Alex Leslie, saw the gap it would leave behind and felt compelled to act. Taking up the baton, the very next day, we established AdaptNI, to ensure no one in these communities was left without the support they deserve!

As a qualified tinnitus advisor and electronic note-taker, and while completing my Level 6 in British Sign Language (BSL), I’ve built my career on breaking barriers and championing equality. There’s nothing more rewarding to me than seeing a confident participant successfully transition into unsupported employment, supported by a Deaf-aware and accessible employer.

Every success story reminds me why I do this work—to help individuals achieve their potential and to inspire workplaces to embrace inclusivity. Tinnitus awareness Week will take place in February and the year ahead should include some very exciting news about the BSL and ISL Act in Northern Ireland.

If we can support you or someone you know, get in touch!!
